Up to 100 volunteers and medical electives have travelled to Gorkha through the Charity.  The medical electives have gained valuable experience in the local hospital in Gorkha, and other volunteers have been involved in some of our many projects over the years, including teaching, health care, and transference of a wide range of skills.

Why not visit Nepal and get involved in the current programmes?

  • Many medical students have undertaken their elective time at the hospital in Gorkha – Reports from previous volunteers are available to gain an insight into their experiences.
  • In schools you can help as a teacher or as support staff improving both the students and the teachers English and pronunciation.
  • Many trades and skills are transferable and we welcome all those who may have skills or experience that may be used to help the people of Gorkha. Everyone has something to offer – enthusiasm goes a long way.

After initial contact with us, we will agree appropriate timing for your visit and try to identify where your skills may be of help to the community.  This may be helping in one of the schools or colleges, or helping with individual projects. The programme will remain flexible so that volunteers can get to know people and help where they feel comfortable.

Through our contacts we can help arrange accommodation with a family or in a hotel in the town.

We are able to provide guidance to help you prepare for your trip to Nepal and your experience in Gorkha including lots of tips and advise – much of which has come from previous volunteers so your feedback upon return is always helpful.

Volunteers have been encouraged to attend a meeting of the sister charity GDHEDS when in Gorkha and have been welcomed to take part in discussions to help progress communication on projects where possible.

There are obvious limitations and difficulties in running the charity due to the distance between UK and Nepal and so volunteers do play a vital link in aiding the communication between the sister charities.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer then please contact us.
