Funding and Transparency

When a new project or repeat project is ready for funding then a proposal is prepared on a simple GDS funding proposal form. Details of the project and costs are required, and the proposal must then be agreed by GDHEDS committee members in Gorkha.

The form is then sent via phone to GDS in the UK and all Trustees will study and discuss, request further information if required, and may suggest modifications.  When approved in the UK then funds will be released for the project to be undertaken.  Evidence is usually provided with photographs of children, materials or training events. Volunteers often present provide feedback and may contribute suggestions for improvement.

Approximate costs of some of the projects are given below: –

School Hygiene project – £300 provides 10 training sessions on personal and community hygiene for a school class and each child will recieve soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, and nail clippers for their personal hygiene, as well as cleaning equipment for the school.

Women’s Health programme – £250 will fund a specialist Hospital Doctor for the days informative presentation, as well as provide snacks for up to 60 women attending the programme (this is seen as an incentive to encourage them to attend, and ensures time is available for discussion, sharing problems, and understanding of common ladies medical concerns.

Children’s education sponsorship – £30.00 a year per child will provide books, uniform and shoes, and cover any school fees for the year. £60 will fund tuition for classes 10-12 ( A level equivalent) and £250 will pay tuition fees for a degree level student at the nearby Campus.

Teacher Training in Rural schools – £400 will cover transport and accommodation in rural area and fund trainer costs for 2-3 days as well as snacks and materials for 35 teachers from nearby schools. Teacher costs and facilities are met by the schools. It is hoped that training books £5.00 each will be supplied to each teacher in the future.
