Fiona and Ian’s Nepali evening with help from the ‘Hungry Buddha’, Sheffield

October 28, 2019
Former volunteer Fiona, and her husband Ian are still keen to raise awareness and share their experience with friends. They recently organised a party at home and friends brought high quality books for early learners which will be forwarded to Nepal.  Fiona aims to use these as resources to inspire teachers in a visit being planned for next year.  The evening was topped off with Nepali food supplied by Dev Gurung – such incredible kindness.
Fiona said – “All in all a great evening was had by all!” and I think we all wish we were there!  – Fiona wrote –
“Thanks to Dev Gurung from Hungry Buddha in Sheffield we were able to bring an authentic “Taste of Nepal “to the Hope Valley in Derbyshire! He generously provided us with a couple of veg curries and some traditonal Dal & carrot pickle.  Ian anda couple of friends cooked rice and Ian made some additional pickles, poppadoms and roti .
We were joined by about 50 friends all of whom brought MANY books, some resources, some bottles and also some cash donations that they wanted to put towards either posting the books or buying ones I felt were appropriate. ( £110 approx.)
Everyone loved the food , the fire pit and all the Nepalese accessories and prayer flags that were both outside and inside and I got the chance to wear one of my Nepalese outfits again! We didn’t have any Nepalese dancing but we did enjoy Ian’s new turntable so we relived the 1980s and those that didn’t have to get the local train home danced till late!!! “
