Occupational Therapy Volunteer in Nepal

March 22, 2018

Elise Kerle from Australia recently volunteered through GDS and so we are pleased to send some snippets from her experience.  You can read Elise’s full report and also donate to her fundraising for GDS  gofundme.com/gorkha-development-scheme

“What a trip! Three weeks, 39 meals of dahl bhat and an adventure I’ll never forget”

1 Homestay –Arriving in bustling Gorkha, I was greeted by Sarita and that evening attended a meeting with the board of GDHEDS where we discussed what I was interested in. Although it was daunting to be in a foreign country, staying with people I’d never met before, ama and didi were kind and though there was some cultural differences which needed explaining re food and tiredness through jet lag etc, they always made sure I had everything I needed. All in all, the homestay was a fantastic way to truly experience local life in Gorkha. I also became great friends with the children that lived across the road, who took me on many adventures during my stay and who often came over to play games with me in the evenings before dinner.
