Health & Education Development Scheme A Volunteer's View |
|
Six weeks out in Nepal, one week with no luggage, lost in the middle of Kathmandu, mammoth treks that stretch your physical endurance, daily washes with chicken and fish, open air toilets, very spicy food, flash floods that turn streets into rivers, thousands of evil mosquitoes, mice in my bed. People who welcome you into their home, give you food and a bed, teach you about the importance of the family, of tradition, the laughter of children as they attempt the Hokey-Kokey, a cup of warm buffalo milk by the fire. The highest point on Earth, the worst rendition of 'Yesterday', the joy of a community united, knowing that you can make a difference. I see their faces everyday, the smiles and the laughter, the memories that will stay with me forever Ruth's Story ![]() |
