Problems faced by the children
When talking with volunteer teacher Megan, the children also spoke about the problems they face. Many struggle to consume enough clean water and many talked about the lack of space and loss of playground. The school is still being rebuilt from the earthquake and so there is little space for sporting activities at break and lunchtimes. Some children talked about how far they had to walk to get to school as they live in rural areas. This is a barrier to learning and as a consequence there are often absences when weather is bad.
