GDHEDS Nepal Committee

In 1989 as GDS was formed then simultaneously, the sister charity Gorkha District Health and Education Development Scheme (GDHEDS) was formed and registered in Nepal. The local GDHEDS committee consisted of founding members Perusotum Aryal as Headmaster, and Badri Maskey as Medical liaison (now both retired but still involved), together with the late Mohan Shrestha as Campus Chief, as well as the Senior Doctor at Gorkha Hospital and a nominated Government official from Gorkha.

The GDHEDS committee continues to be our contact with the community as they present applications for funding and manage all projects in Gorkha with cultural sensitivity. We continue to work together though now with much improved communication via email and social media.

GDHEDS is a registered NGO in Nepal and so must follow the strict government regulations in relation committee constitution and audited accounts. They meet on a regular basis and are key to communication with the UK. Members of the committee prepare, discuss and compile project proposals, handle transfer of finances as appropriate and arrange and host volunteer visits.

Others involved in GDHEDS projects may also be invited to meetings to include hospital doctors and headmasters where children are sponsored or programmes are run.
