Tribute to GDS founder

We are very sad to announce the loss of GDS founder Joy Leighton, who passed away peacefully at home on 17th December at the age of 96. The energy, drive and tremendous work Joy did through limited communication, political uprising and cultural differences to start the charity was incredible. Joy was a retired school teacher who first travelled to Nepal in 1987 to go trekking near Gorkha and soon developed a passion for the country and the people. She befriended members of the local community to include teachers and health officials, she worked with them to focus on helping the poorest people in the district. Joy loved her relationship with Gorkha and everybody loved Joy and she was highly respected and devoted to them.
