An Urgent Appeal on Behalf
of Archived January 2003 |
![]() |
I am
making an appeal on behalf of a non-government organisation in Nepal known as
The Child First (TCF). We have been in close collaboration with them in
Gorkha, from where they run outlying clinics and educational
facilities.
This organisation was supported by Save the Children US (SCUS) until the end of last year when funding was withdrawn. I quote from a letter sent by the Programme Director in Kathmandu:- "Save the children US has planned to phase out its program from Gorkha after Dec. 1998, and given the quality of works and management performance that TCF has demonstrated, we would like to recommend to the potential future donors that The Child First, although new, is capable of successfully managing the program, and addressing the community needs in its areas of experience"The areas mentioned include Education and Child Development, Health, Sustainable Agriculture, and Economic Opportunities. This means, at present, the support of the following will be discontinued when funds are exhausted:- Community Based Child Development Centre with two centres and 6 Childrens Clubs, Womens Management co-op support (saving and credit programme), 21 Health Clinics in outlying districts plus support for sustainable agricultural projects for women. The cost of this, as budgeted by SCUS is £17416 per year or approximately US$ 25274. So much is achieved with so little money The Gorkha District Health and Development Scheme has given minimal financial assistance to TCF for basic needs regarding the continuation of 21 clinics and some educational projects for the month of January only, hoping that other donors will come forward. We are only a small Charity, and our funds are insufficient to give further help. Can you give any assistance to The Child First? Without help the organisation will have to close down in Gorkha. For further information or to offer financial assistance, please contact The Child First at gorkha@tcfg.mos.com.np
